Sons of Garcia is a new ensemble featuring virtuoso jazz trumpeter Gabriel Garcia and renowned guitarist/composer Anthony Garcia. The father son duo embark on their first artistic collaboration paying homage to their Mexican/American heritage and their shared passion for improvisation, stylistic experimentation and world fusion. Their music explores the nexus where jazz, classical, Latin, Spanish and folk music converge.

Gabriel Garcia was born in Merida, Mexico and raised and educated in Australia. The recipient of the James Morrison Jazz Scholarship in 2017, his passion for jazz and improvisation lead him the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University , where he is currently completing his final year of a bachelor’s degree in jazz studies. This year Gabriel joined the Josh Batka Quintet, performing at the Jazz Music Institute and will tour Australia as lead trumpeter for the hit musical The Sunshine Club. In addition to this, Gabriel has performed, toured and recorded with local reggae, rock and pop groups around Queensland and worked as a teaching artist for Sounds Across Oceans, joining a stella collective of diverse artists on the Creative Fusion in Roma project, presented by QPAC.

Anthony Garcia is an acclaimed guitatist, composer and educator b orn in the United States and raised and educated in South East Asia, Australia and Mexico.

His formal music studies include a degree in music from the Queensland Conservatorium, a first class Honours and Master’s degree from the University of Queensland and a PhD in music from the University of Tasmania.

He has recorded, toured and performed extensively throughout the world as a soloist and with creatives across a diverse range of artistic disciplines.

His recordings include three solo classical guitar albums, Desert Stars Dancing with William Barton, Moliendo Café with Latin Harpist Sandra Real and the 2023 Self – titled rock album Soniclines with William Barton and Tyrone Noonan.

His exploratory philosophy of music – making has generated a highly personal creative approach that embraces both ancient and contemporary forms, world and ethnic musics and improvisational practice.

This concert , held in the enchanting Montville Village Hall in the Sunshine Coast Hinte rland, will feature original music by Sons of Garcia alongside works by Morricone, Borachov, Villa Lobos, Piazzolla & Jobim
